Approaching Opera 12.02 Final

August 21, 2012 · by Haavard

We are approaching the final release of Opera 12.02. It is not quite ready for Release Candidate status yet, but we've fixed a few bugs.

Of particular importance is CORE-48069, which fixes an issue where secure pages would be shown as not being secure. Let us know if secure sites seem to work correctly now, or if you are able to spot any new problems.

WARNING: This is a development snapshot: It contains the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, it may not work at all.

Changelog
  • CORE-48069 Opera isn't connecting correctly to secure pages
  • DSK-363864 Windows 8 identified to autoupdate as 7

It would be nice if you could try to be specific when reporting problems.

Could you please give me some advices on how to detect where these freezes come from? My PC is weak, Chrome and IE may work slower than Opera but I've never seen them freeze. Firefox does freeze from time to time.

I believe he is referring to problems with regards to the Bootstrap CSS/JS Framework, where the Accordion Controls and a few other JS Plugins fail to work in Opera but work fine in other browsers. This might be a case for browser.js however.

Keybinding problem on Mac OS will not be resolved? I have to kill Opera about once a day at the moment once copy & paste keybindings become full-screen switchers. :-(
  • CryioTuesday, August 21, 2012 11:29:33 AM

12.02 is shaping out nicely. Now it's secure, fast, stable, just...not usable enough (for me and a few friends of mine) with the painting issues. Nice one with the Windows 8 identifier.

I'll start recomanding Opera again to everybody when that singular issue is fixed.

I eagerly await 12.10 (if there will be one) or 12.50.

Regression since build 1552: still no sound when clickin' on links!

Opera x64 on Win7 x64, when sounds are enabled.

don't know it's it recent regression or not. i installed it over last build and bars again appeared black. i copied standard_skin.zip from 11.64 (that is 1 148KB ) over standard_skin.zip that was in this build (that was 1 146KB ) and... everything is colored again... no more black, "empty" bars.(i use skin that is based on Opera's native, but standard_skin.zip is not a native one, right?!). This whole issue is probably not very important since there are whole new themes that covers everything, but remember that the old O skins are still available(please don't change that), and they do work in O.12 (and they look better on win xp because they use windows close, maximize and minimize buttons), and the issue i just described is causing some of them not appear properly. the differences between old standard_skin.zip and the new one is probably one or two lines of text, so... is it really a problem to fix it?

    ps.
regression i mentioned in last build is still here - when opera starts master password window is hidden(not focused) behind opera's main window.

I think bootstrap 2.1 fixed that. At least I've seen it working with Opera 12.01 while I tried to update bootstrap in my project.

The pictures speak for themselves! The settings are the defaults, I do not understand why it is not shown to be safe in the certificate installed on the site!?

I do not know the developers are not interested in the Hungarian opinions?

Did has nothing to do with the devs, you are rather the owners of the sertificate have to make an officially request for this.

HWA is disabled by default, there is a reason for that!

So its incorporated into the program, highlighted as a great feature in v.12, however, don't use it since it will crash the OS? Interesting....

That bug useless, it's just Chrome mix up with another browser, maybe Opera can learn something from it.
  • newscpqTuesday, August 21, 2012 3:34:01 PM

is CORE-48069 a bug fix that would solve the bug in Opera NEXT, as well?

I found some sites that appear to be not encrypted at all ("web" word shown in the address bar) in Opera NEXT 1546, while they are qualified secure (green padlock) by Chrome.

    another 3 bugs:
    http://i.imgbox.com/adkQawIq.png
-no link to article (it's Your article opera;))
-present from 11 - status bar displays info from random tab
    -no flash content

oh, and that also reminds me that messages from feeds are not always fully stretched down (when they should). unfortunately i don't have any example at this moment
  • achim3Tuesday, August 21, 2012 3:40:54 PM

    ALERT!!!!
    Refering to Opera 12 x32 1555!
Again found a grey box where actually a flash video should appear (very seldom now) using youtube.
At first I thought, all those grey boxes would be gone forever since you disabled out-of-process plugins. It definetely got MUCH better since using the first 12.02 beta 1552. It took me 2 days of youtubing before I could experience this thing again. However there still needs to be a bug somewhere in the code causing that.
This bug is reported for Opera 12 x32 1555.
I have not seen it yet on Opera 12 x32 1552 (but could also be because I did not test with that version THAT long)

Unlike the grey boxes in 12.00-12.01 I can get the video to work by simply reloading the page now. This was never possible before (12.00-12.01).

However a parallel install of Opera 11.52 has never shown a grey box instead of the video FOR MONTHS!

Maybe further investigation is needed, I would provide any help I can...

Are you gonna fix the following skin issues?
    * [Tab Group Collapse.rtl] doesn't exist
    * [Mail Window Treeview Skin.rtl] is missing!!
    * [Tab Group Expanded Background Skin.rtl] is missing
    * [Pagebar Skin.left/right.rtl] is broken
    * More missing RTLs:
    - [Popup Menu Skin.rtl]
    - [Extensions Panel List Item Separator.rtl]
    - [Scrollbar Vertical Knob Skin.rtl]
    and the most urgent regression:
    * [Mail Window Treeview Skin.selected] background image isn't working anymore. All other states work well ?!

I have more skin regressions and bugs. So, to fix these ones would be helpful, please

If it has been functional in earlier builds than it can be a regression, and you should make a bug rapport about it, and not posting the trouble here. over and over again.
You also didn't provide much info
