Opera 10.53 RC1 for Windows and Mac

April 28, 2010 · by Haavard

A crash was reported as a security issue yesterday, and we are still investigating the issue. However, we do have a fix ready for testing already. This build also fixes a freeze on Google Maps, and an issue with custom distributions of Opera.

Download:

Changelog:
  • Version 10.53
  • Fixed CORE-29447 (Possible vulnerability (SA39590: Writing Uninitialised Memory Vulnerability))
  • Fixed CORE-28262 (Fixed order of dialog.ini loading to make the one in the custom folder work)
  • Fixed CARAKAN-1278 (Freeze on Google Maps)

Fixed CORE-29447 (Possible vulnerability (SA39590: Writing Uninitialised Memory Vulnerability))

My Secunia PSI still shows it as insecure.

I hope, you'll post an autoupdate image, as it is a security fix...
  • Rafael Luik28. April 2010, 14:22

What about copying notes not working?
Yep, it's my pet bug, and I'm getting tired of feeding him. bug :D

  • Patkos Csaba28. April 2010, 14:25

Nice ... Security problem needs to be fixed quickly. +1 from me for the fast reaction.

PS: I also have my pet-bug growing on me. And I feed it a lot ... it's getting hard to get along with him. I am talking about the webfonts messing up bug
  • SteveKong28. April 2010, 14:30

Wow! That is fast reaction on an vulnerability - thanks!

It works, but different from previous versions. You have to append a / to the word to be completed to an url. That behaviour is indeed intended by the developers.
  • withme28. April 2010, 14:32

Can you finally fix the DSK-293646 or you just simply don't know how to do it?

Which is okay when using a US-keyboard but sucks when using another layout that doesn't have a dedicated "/"-key near "Enter" (like here in Germany). At least make it optional. Please.
  • netwolf28. April 2010, 14:38

    Very good.
Confirmed the crash in 10.52 and the fix in 10.53 RC on XP

  • Francis Adu-Gyamfi28. April 2010, 14:43

I just downloaded 10.52 people. Sloooooooooooooooooooww down now!!! Make I feel the new one before you dey make more changes. Ahhhh ba!

Honestly, my love for Opera has tripled today. I've finally setup Feeds and Mail and now I don't think I will ever have a need to open IE for anything again. Now if only Yahoo Mail would be totally fixed (see forum for details), I would be a totally happy customer.

    Windows 7 64bits

Mouse gestures doesnt work when performed over an empty workspace. (the gray screen showed when all tabs are closed and "allow empty workspace" is selected)

In Opera 10.10, one could use the mouse gesture "new page" to open a new tab when there was no open tabs. (aka. empty workspace)

    Can someone confirm this?

How do I tell Opera to use "slight" freetype hinting type under Linux?
It's set system-wide, in /etc/fonts/conf.d/ and Gnome and KDE system settings, everywhere!
The ONLY application which does not use system antialiasing settings is OPERA.
    :-((((((((
  • ruaman28. April 2010, 14:52

    Wow!!! 10.53 !!!
  • Dimitrios Mageiras28. April 2010, 14:54

Opera crashes when visiting a web page with DivX plugin v2.0.2.39.
    Examples:
    http://www.divx.com/en/software/download/installed
    http://www.sumskaya.com/divx-web-player.html

    Windows 7 x64.

My Pet Bug is that I can't access Feeds from the Panel Bar, but you don't see me posting about it in every snapshot post (apart from when I post here like now whining about people continually repeat posting their bugs, even though the devs repeatability ask them not to) I raised a DSK and then crossed my fingers that they get to it at some point in the future...

How indeed do you know that? This was hashed over in a thread, and we couldn't even figure that out there. It's utterly unintuitive and doesn't seem like a feature to me.

It also has a side-effect: you can no longer double-click a word and select "Go to Web address" and actually have it go to the address version of the word. That was one handy feature. Now it Googles the word. Sigh.

The speed in the Linux build is fantastic here - really responsive on the desktop and laptop. Fonts look great on the desktop, but not the laptop [openSUSE 11.2 on a Dell Latitude D400, 500MB RAM, no KDE/GNOME] with FreeSans. I've just tried changing the font to Liberation Sans in gtk-chtheme and the rendering is better. But I don't know why.

SVG audio doesn't work - is this known?

It's been like that for quite a few builds already. I assume it's a known issue, just a low priority one though.
  • Pieter Van Nuffel28. April 2010, 15:00

linux issues, compared to 10.10 (kubuntu 7.10, kde 3.5):

-right clicking and using the scroll wheel does not change the tab anymore (and also does not show a menu in the middle with all current tabs)
    - putting an url into the X 'copy and paste' memory by simply selecting it, and middle clicking on the body of an empty tab does not make opera go to that url anymore

So these are regressions, I would love these 2 issues to be fixed.

Is it me, there is no freeze on Google Maps, when Drag and Zoom is enabled :-), but Drag and Zoom does not actually work? :-(
  • Dimitrios Mageiras28. April 2010, 15:05

"Waiting for DNS" and "NSL" at http://www.freeimagehosting.net/

    Windows 7 x64
  • Olli28. April 2010, 15:07

Still crashes on nearly every wikipedia-search for me. But windows-behavior problems and the shutdown-problem seem to be fixed for me.
Yeah and youtube...I think this is a major thing for 10.5.5 maybe:rolleyes:
  • Furkan28. April 2010, 15:08

While i'm using FriendFeed, it shows the main page which stored in the cache first and after 5 seconds, Opera shows the last updates. It doesnt search and show the recent updates at the start, i should wait 3-4 seconds at first.

Anyone confirm? This problem is available since ver. 10.10

The way we know is because in the early Evenes builds, the addr bar drow-down design included two options:

    o Search with "opera"
    o Go to "opera/"

The "opera/" item was subsequently taken out, so now it's an Easter Egg-ish feature.

Agreed, this should be changed, given there's already a "Search..." item in the context menu. "Go to Web Addr..." should send it as a domain request, not search.

    Unix alpha?

Not here. There are three ways to search Wikipedia in Opera; which way are you using?
  • samMD28. April 2010, 15:17

nice will check it out later today!
  • Olli28. April 2010, 15:18

Oh and I forgot, multitouch seems to go much more smoothly. Somehow much better than the final yesterday:yes:

Of course in the search bar. Otherwise there wouldn't be any problem. But If I use another element (eg. google) and then type somethin in and chose wiki. It crashes not everytime, but everytime I restarted Opera, it crashes for sure. Not a that big bug, but the big bugs have been fixed, leaving out the big youtube-issue.

EDIT: I mean the search bar on top next to the adress bar. And I'm talkin of the mac version.
  • Luchio28. April 2010, 15:18

    woah... 10.52 will be short-lived!
  • Wouter28. April 2010, 15:19

Very nice, but why do you keep bringing out new RCs without fixing all the problems of the previous ones? I have had this bug: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2010/04/16/evenes-mac-final-rc?startidx=50#comment24850882 since the first RC for 10.52. Could you please fix it? Thanks.
