I think the beta is improving with every update.
Still scroll speed is an issue, seems OS or device specific.

It's smooth and fast on my Galaxy S 2.3.6, same as stock browser
It's smooth but SLOW on my Galaxy Note, 4.1.2. , much slower than stock browser

Glad you do your homework on android o/s....I still can't believe Google Blogger deprecated IE7 last year when it's still the browser of choice in British libraries..
    =o}

For the desktop, the things are pretty simple: I'll wait the first Chromium Beta. If it is not a damn good job in the UI department - good bye, Opera. And yes, the now dead Presto browser is far from perfect (how about memory usage and leaks??), but i have put up with many little quirks and still used it, because it was simple and fast, because it was Presto. Not anymore, so the only way to win me back in the desktop department is to make damn good UI, that far exceeds Chrome or Firefox. For example, the stupid font smoothing that stops me now from using Chrome... buy hey, it's something in the layout engine.. so you'll suffer from that too.. so why should i use Opera at all?

Sorry for the offtopic, but i just don't like when business$$$ kills innovations and customer satisfaction.

As for the mobile browser, it's utter failiure!! Tested on Android 2.3.7 with arm v6 and on Android 4.0.4 with arm v7 1ghz cpu.
Interface is bullshit. A lot of Marketing i see - renaming saved files to offline files, proxy to offroad... i see, very important new features. Unification of bookmarks and speeddial... - did you tested this with 200 bokkmarks? I bet not. Opera link - practically killed. RSS - killed, but replaced with news from 10 sites, and obviously i cannot add more. Default zoom - killed. Tab switching - with 3 instead of 2 clicks. The only new thing is the private browsing... which Firefox Mobile already has for about 1-2 years. By the way it also has widgets/add-ons/extentions, which obviously you don't want to port from the desktop version.

Under the hood: webkit. Laggy zoom. Lacking text reflowing in one column, which is the most important thing for small screens, as stated above in other comments. opera:config is dead, but chrome://chrome-urls is not yet born. More mem and cpu usage. Generally, bullshit again. As if Firefox and Chrome and Android's own browser does not exist and there in no competition at all in mobile browser market, in smartphone dept. at least...
So obviously i cannot use this anymore on my mobile devices.

Actually it's not even a proper beta vesion by definition, it's more like alpha. A beta is supposed to be feature complete, so it only gets bugfixes. Here, essential features are missing.
But that is what hapens when IT company puts in the lead Financial and Marketing Dept. instead of Developers. You just get a big Marketing shit instead of real browser.

    THIS

Now seriously, are we going to see something like real beta of real webbrowser in the upcoming 1-2 months. I mean, i wonder if i should unninstall this junk right now and forget about it, or wait for 1-2 more updates?

    And THIS I'm still sad.

As a Norwegian and a long time Opera user turned developer, I've had a long, colorful and until a year or so back, a faithful relationship.

I remember the way it made me feel like I was getting just a little bit more from what was then a world where hardware and baud challenged....

It seems like ludicrous now, did I really use a browser covering a sizable part of my screen real estate for ads? And as the years have gone, I've always felt that Opera was that one sweet Norwegian geek pride, and that Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner has been a safeguard for the ever changing and scary browser market....even to the point that I invested my student load in Opera shares...

Turns out I wasn't wrong in fearing what would happen with the creator and parent of Opera gone...I think it's timing was shrewdly aligned with what almost seems like a reality now, Opera's demise on everything but fridges!

I've never ever been remotely close to working on a project that had any sort of "version-skipping-feature" before, so maybe I'm missing something, but it feels like you've been bullied, or are ashamed for something....

When is the next update planned based on BLINK?
  • skoy21Tuesday, April 30, 2013 9:09:46 PM

A big WHY? Why did you take the best browser ever and rip it off to the place even the worst browser couldn't crawl? Why did you remove all that great features that made it what it was? Why do you even report as chrome? If I wanted chrome, I would use that, not opera... I downloaded mobile app, and was terrified when I read it is going to be the same in Opera desktop. Take all coments above me into serious account and start building back OPERA!!!

    OPERA IS OFFICIALLY DEAD

This Android version is just ugly as hell. Everything is ugly, UI, page rendering and even text size is wrong on pages I visited, not to mention pages don't look like on desktop. No Flash ! It's just stupid not to include Flash, especially Flash support was main selling point of Opera Mobile

Only good thing is that web standards won't probably change so soon and old Opera Mobile will be still useful for some time to come.

BTW. This abomination doesn't look like Opera Mobile at all. It's entirely new browser. I thought developers will make it look more like previous browsers to calm down old Opera Mobile fans. It's obviously not the case so expect drastic decrease in mobile market share by the end of the year and years to follow to the point you will be an example of how not to do business. It's like M$ would switch to Linux + Wine to cut down development costs and expect people would not notice ...

Hey, most people would indeed not notice that - as long as the UI looks the same or the step is not bigger than that between W7 and W8 was.

The updated Opera is too heavy for my tiny Gio. Lagging and force closing. Sorry but I have to leave Opera.
