You don't need them -> you don't use them. But there are many people who need them, but because there were no extensions in Opera, these people didn't use it. Now more people will probably come to Opera because of these extensions and their realizations in Opera.

If this means that some javascripts that work with Greasemonkey but barely work on Opera will work as intended? If yes, yay!
But, if this means that Opera will turn into extension incompatibility hell and take loooooooooong times to start, then nay!
Also, why is there a need of extension when mostly all (with few notable exceptions) the extensions I'd seen in Firefox are already in Opera or can be added with .ini tweaking
Not saying no to innovation, is just that I do not like the whole idea of extensions to begin with.
SondeckisThursday, October 14, 2010 12:30:23 PM
I don not understand why do you complain about this feature. If you will use extension it of course will slow down(1% or 2x slower)! As I understand Unite loads only on turning it on. So maybe extensions engine will load when you will use those extensions. Whats the problem? OK, MAYBE wasted time, MAYBE. Don't want to judge while it is not even released in pre-pre-pre-...-alpha.
Zalex ;-)Thursday, October 14, 2010 12:42:49 PM
I like Opera as it is right now without add ons, but the extensions it's a handicap for many people to use Opera, so Good work guys, with this, Opera may spread Strong & Faster than ever
So, about the security, for thus who don't like addOns, just, don't use it & still work with "the original" Opera, that's all, your security doesn't be compromised, so.

MimdalaThursday, October 14, 2010 12:51:24 PM
Opera, you have been the best browser for so long. Why are you doing this? It makes no sense to me. Lowered security, lowered performance, and a blatant mimicking of a wildly inferior browser. Extensions are security problems more than anything else. They clog up and bog down your browser until it runs like ie8. With only a few extensions firefox slows down about half of its speed.
No doubt you will handle this better than other browsers, but I see no point to handle it at all. Every feature that opera has is in-lined with the browser. It has more features than any browser, even with dozens of extensions added into firefox and crome.
I think this is a mistake. A big one.

its very nice to have more features added but plz for god sake add the search suggestions to searches especially the Google search box that appears beside the address bar..
since opera is always the first in introducing innovations in browser [though it lagged in extensions area] but another most important feature would be an auto complete so that if we type just few characters of certain words then suggestions pops up so that one could select one from , that would be very nice...
