Trusted website list

Browser security depends on establishing the identity of individuals and organizations who wish to transact business over the internet, and providing them with a secure channel in which to do so. You can manage the security environment provided by Opera through the security preferences.

Opera uses a set of whitelists to help protect you from insecure extensions and fraudulent or malicious websites. If you attempt to download an extension from a site that is not on the whitelist, you will get a warning: "For your safety, you can only install extensions from addons.opera.com." If you nevertheless want to install the extension, you have two choices:

  • Find an equivalent extension on addons.opera.com
  • Add the extension's web address to the whitelist

If you believe that extension comes from a trustworthy source, take the following steps to add the source to the whitelist:

  1. From the menu, go to Settings > Preferences > Advanced > Security.
  2. Click the "Trusted Websites" button.
  3. Choose the relevant tab: Trusted Repositories or Secure Internal Hosts
  4. Click "Add" and enter the web address of the site. You can also edit or delete sites in the list.

Trusted Repositories

By default, the trusted repositories are the following:

Secure Internal Hosts

By default, no secure internal hosts are defined.
